Cato Institute fellow Will Wilkinson joins the show to talk about consumerism: Is purchasing lots of shiny things an immoral thing to do? Should we be like Jainist monks in India, who don't wear clothes because clothes are a possession? Individualistic consumerism gets a bad rap, he says, with environmentalists and moralizers saying less is better, but Wilkinson wonders just where we draw the line. Pants? Bowls? Stuffed armadillos? He mentions that the nations that consume the most are the wealthiest, and reaches the somewhat befuddling conclusion that we should stop worrying and simply consume and enjoy.
